Pub sign THE GRIFFIN(Courage)
Monmouth Street, Bath

A cosy and friendly pub dating back to the early 1770's has long been patronised by the back-stage staff working at the Theatre Royal. The Griffin is a mythological creature, half Lion half Eagle, an emblem of valor and nobility and became the heraldic crest adopted by Sir John Granville, 2nd. Earl of Bath. A 'swear-box' is kept at the bar to help raise money for three local charities; a rare case of putting your money where your mouth is.
